Seattle,WA : Two motorcyclists killed in Seattle-area I-5 crashes in 24 hours on July, Tuesday 4th 2017

A motorcycle crash Tuesday morning, in which the motorcyclist hit a barrier and was ejected onto an HOV lane below, was the second fatal crash along Interstate 5 in Seattle in 24 hours, the Washington State Patrol said.

The State Patrol said a motorcyclist driving a Harley Davidson XLH883 was heading south on I-5 at the I-90 interchange when he struck the right side barrier.

The driver was ejected, landing on a Dodge Caliber traveling north on I-5 at the I-90 junction in the HOV lane, before coming to rest in the HOV lane, according to the State Patrol, whose troopers responded at the scene 7:26 a.m.

The motorcyclist was identified as Richard A. McKelvey, 29, of Monroe.

Two lanes of northbound I-5 were closed, Johnson said. The roadway was blocked for three hours and 30 minutes, according to the State Patrol.

In the earlier crash, around 4:45 p.m. Monday, a 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a car heading southbound on I-5 near the West Seattle Bridge exit, the State Patrol reported.

Troopers said the motorcyclist was “traveling at a high rate and in and out of traffic,” and “failed to yield to slowing traffic” when the motorcycle struck another vehicle.

The motorcyclist was identified as Ryan K. Abay-Abay, 45, of Bellevue.

The 47-year-old woman driving the car was uninjured.
