Witts Spring man killed in one-vehicle crash on Searcy County rural road
ST. JOE — Searcy County Sheriff Joey Pruitt said 54-year-old Curtis Edward Butler of Witts Spring was killed in an apparent one-vehicle crash on a rural road Monday.
Pruitt said his office was notified about 10:30 p.m. Monday of the wreck on South Tomahawk Road near St. Joe.
He said a passerby found the 2002 Ford Escape turned over on its side with the driver pinned under it. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff said the exact circumstances behind the crash weren’t completely clear, but the SUV apparently hit a tree and overturned on the partially-ejected driver.
Pruitt said Tuesday morning that he wasn’t prepared to release the driver’s identity until he was certain all next of kin had been notified, but that notification was made Tuesday afternoon.
He said Butler’s wife told investigators Butler had family in the St. Joe area and was visiting.
