Saugus, MA : 69-year-old pedestrian struck and killed while walking along Route 1 in Saugus on Wednesday night, April 8, 2015
State police have identified a 69-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a car on Route 1 in Saugus as she was walking with a friend.
Troopers say Loretta Williamson died after she was hit by the car at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. A 64-year-old woman who was walking with her was not struck, but was brought to a hospital for evaluation and released. Police believe both women were staying at a nearby hotel.
Police say the driver of the car was a 20-year-old Saugus woman who didn't stop at the scene. Authorities say she called police after she got home and said she thought she hit something.
The driver's name hasn't been released. Police said they took possession of her car and will determine whether to file charges.
