A 49-year-old man was killed Monday night after a two-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of East 15th in Lawrence. (Google Maps).
A 49-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday night in Lawrence.

The incident was reported around 10:42 p.m. in the 1200 block of East 15th, Lawrence police Sgt. Amy Rhoads said in a news release.

The man, in a 1999 Ford Ranger, was exiting the East Lawrence Center when he was struck by a 23-year-old man headed eastbound in a 2017 Nissan.

Upon arrival, police found flames coming from the engine of the Nissan. Bystanders immediately told officers that the driver of the Ford needed assistance. Police found the man unconscious, removed him from the truck and administered CPR until Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical determined the man wasn’t responding, Rhoads said.

The driver of the Nissan was flown to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing, Rhoads said.
