One person was killed when two vehicles collided on a northern New Jersey highway.
State police say the crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. Thursday on Route 287 southbound, near milemarker 55.9 in Wanaque.
Authorities say a woman driving a convertible apparently was backing up on the roadway's shoulder when she lost control of the car and it entered the traffic lanes. It was then struck by a sport utility vehicle with four people inside.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The four people in the SUV were treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Some lanes in the area where the crash occurred were shut down for several hours, causing some traffic delays
