Springfield, IL : 54-year-old O'Fallon man injured in a Three-vehicle crash on I-55 near Staunton on Thursday, March 30, 2017
A 54-year-old O'Fallon man suffered minor injuries Thursday in a three-vehicle crash in the rain on Interstate 55 near Staunton, Illinois State Police said.
Alonzo Pettiford was driving a tractor-trailer southbound about 8 a.m. Sara Crook, 34, of Mount Olive was also heading south and attempted to pass Pettiford. Crook lost control of her car, which started to spin and struck the front bumper of the semi, causing it to leave the roadway to the right and turn over onto its side, police said.
After the initial impact, Crook's car traveled through the median into the northbound lane of the interstate and struck the trailer of a second tractor-trailer, which was driven by Gary Ludwig, 65, of Arnold, Missouri.
The Staunton Fire Department helped Pettiford out of the overturned semi. He was taken to Staunton Hospital for treatment. Crook and Ludwig were not injured.
A state police press release did not include information on any citations issued.
Southbound I-55 was down to one lane for about five hours due to the accident.
