Prattville, AL : Autauga teen killed in freak accident early Thursday morning, June 16, 2016

An Autauga County teenager was killed in a freak accident early Thursday morning.

Kacy Elizabeth Harris, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:21 a.m., said Whit Moncrief, deputy Autauga County coroner. Harris was driving south on County Road 59 when a large tree fell and struck her vehicle, he said. Alabama State Troopers are investigating the accident, he said. The accident scene was south of the County Road 85 intersection, about three miles north of Prattville, Moncrief said.

Harris was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer, and weather may have played a role in the accident, said Cpl. Jess Thornton, a spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Harris was trapped in the vehicle, and it took first responders more than an hour to free her, Moncrief said.

"It was a huge tree," Moncrief said. "The roots were down in a gully beside the road."
