Brevard County,FL : Man dies after fiery crash on August, Tuesday 15th 2017
A man was killed when his car split in half and went up in flames late Tuesday after hitting a power pole on Merritt Island, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.
The crash happened about 11:55 p.m. on Newfound Harbor Drive near Keokuk Street, firefighters said.
Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said Richard Seborowski, 36, of Merritt Island was speeding north on Newfound Harbor when he veered onto the unpaved shoulder and hit the power pole.
Power lines and a transformer fell down, and the 2017 Chevrolet hit a tree and split in half, Montes said. The rear of the car hit a stop sign and ended up in a yard, while the front ended up in the eastbound lane of Keokuk Drive.
The car and a garage then caught on fire, firefighters said.
Seborowski was ejected, Montes said.
He was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where he died. The crash remains under investigation.
More than 100 people in the area were temporarily without power, according to Florida Power & Light. Crews were working to restore the electricity.
Newfound Harbour Drive is one of two main north-south roads on Merritt Island
