Longview, TX : Marshall woman dies, woman critical after a double fatal head-on collision in Grimes County on Tuesday, July 5, 2016

A Marshall woman has died and a Longview woman is in critical condition after a double fatal head-on collision in Grimes County on Tuesday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Shirley Roberson, 64, of Marshall died on Texas 90 less than half a mile north of County Road 238 when a southbound car driven by Robert Gonzalez, 43, of Grapevine crossed into the northbound lane around 11:50 p.m.

Roberson had been a passenger of a car driven by Shareeta Benson, 36, of Longview.

Benson was critically injured in the crash and taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, according to DPS spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Morgan. An update on her condition was not immediately available Thursday morning.

Roberson and Gonzalez both died at the scene.
