BINGHAMTON, NY : 1 killed in crash that closes section of Binghamton highway on Wednesday, 14th September 2016

Authorities say one person has been killed after two tractor-trailers collided on a section of two highways that run together in the city of Binghamton.

The state Department of Transportation says the crash closed a stretch of highway Wednesday morning between Exit 2 and Exit 4 where state Route 17 and Interstate 81 run together before splitting off.

The highway was closed in both the northbound and southbound directions until around 10:40 a.m., when I-81’s northbound lanes reopened. The southbound lanes remain closed between Exit 2 and Exit 4, including the I-81/Route 17 split.

City officials say one person was killed.

State police say troopers are at the scene of the crash, but no details are immediately available.
