Two people, including a felony suspect, were killed in a car crash after speeding away from police in Arlington late Friday.

According to a news release from the Arlington Police Department, officers were trying to find a suspect wanted for aggravated assault on a peace officer in a north Arlington apartment complex about 9:30 p.m. Friday, when the suspect got into a vehicle, which then sped away.

The car was traveling at a high rate of speed, the release says, and in the 2200 block of Randy Snow Road, the driver lost control of the car. It crossed into the oncoming lane, hit a curb and a wooden fence before crashing into a tree.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger, a 32-year-old woman with the outstanding felony warrant, was taken to a hospital where she died, the release says. Their identities have not been released.

Police said officers were not in pursuit of the car because they lost sight of it quickly.
