New Castle, DE : Bicyclist seriously injured in Route 13 crash on Monday, 30th March, 2020

A 51-year-old New Castle woman was seriously injured Sunday evening after a Delaware City man who was driving a pickup truck hit her, Delaware State Police said.

Troopers were called to Route 13 and Route 273 at about 8 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash, police said.

There, they determined that a 36-year-old man was driving a 2001 GMC Denali north on Route 13 when the bicyclist tried to cross the same road. Police said she rode directly into the path of the Denali.The Delaware City man swerved to avoid hitting the woman but couldn't in time, police said. The front right of his truck hit her.Paramedics took the woman to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Denali and his juvenile passenger were not injured.
