Denver,CO : Colorado man convicted in vehicle crash that killed 2 people on Tuesday, 8th May 2018
A Colorado man has been convicted of driving his minivan under the influence of alcohol and being high when he hit and killed two people on a motorcycle in 2016.
KUSA-TV reports that 58-year-old Matthew Samuel Smith was found guilty of two counts of vehicular homicide-DUI, among other counts, in the Labor Day deaths of 21-year-old Brandon Dobson and 20-year-old Breona Knight.
The DA’s office says as Smith tried to turn, he didn’t yield to oncoming traffic and hit the motorcycle. Dobson and Knight died at to hospitals.
The office said samples of Smith’s blood drawn 90 minutes after the crash found a blood-alcohol content of 0.054. There was also a presence of cocaine.
Police say they found five empty 50-milliliter bottles of schnapps in the van and drug paraphernalia.
