A drunken driver accused of causing a crash that killed a retired judge has been sentenced to spend one year behind bars

Prosecutors said Ryan Marchant was driving on Route 4 in Durham last February when he crossed the center line and slammed into Bruce Larson's car, killing him.

Marchant was convicted of felony aggravated driving while intoxicated last month, but the jury was hung on a charge of class B negligent homicide.

In addition to serving jail time, he will lose his license and have a breath-alcohol ignition lock device installed in his car.
