One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Deer Valley Road early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 6:50 a.m., engines and ambulances from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District were called to a traffic collision on Deer Valley Road, just north of Empire Mine Road.
Investigators from the California Highway Patrol found that a Honda Civic traveling north on Deer Valley Road crossed the solid double yellow line for “unknown reasons,” CHP said. The Civic crashed into an oncoming Honda Accord, spun out of control and then crashed into a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Honda Civic, a 38-year-old Brentwood resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda Accord was transported to a local hospital and the driver of the Toyota sought treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries.
It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor in this collision.
Deer Valley Road was closed from Balfour Road to the Kaiser Antioch Medical Center, officials from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said.
