A 32-year-old U.S. Postal Service van driver suffered injuries Tuesday afternoon when a motorist ran a red light at a downtown intersection, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Marcus Oliver, 32, of Knoxville was being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center for what were not thought to be life-threatening injuries. Also being treated at UT Medical Center was Melinda Benson, 59, of Seymour, according to KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk. The drivers' extent of injuries was unavailable.
Benson was heading north about 1:30 p.m. on Henley Street in a Toyota Venza, according to DeBusk. She continued through a red light at Cumberland Avenue, colliding with Oliver's westbound van, according to a preliminary investigation.
Benson had to be extricated from her Toyota. Police ticketed her for disregarding a red light.
