Baychester, NY : Alvin Fuster, 43, killed when his BMW slammed into a pole in the Bronx early Saturday, April 18, 2015
A 43-year-old Bronx man was killed Saturday when his BMW was T-boned and sent hurtling into a utility pole, officials said.
Alvin Fuster of Hunts Point was speeding west on E. 222nd St. in Baychester at 2 a.m. when he was struck by a Dodge Avenger traveling north on Eastchester Road, police sources said.
The force of the horrifying impact coupled with the speed of Fuster’s 2005 BMW M3 sent the luxury car spiraling off the road and into a utility pole, police sources said.
Paramedics took Fuster to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died about 30 minutes after the crash, cops said.
“He had a heart of gold,” said longtime neighbor Wanda Hefeed, 60. “When he was a teenager he lived on the wild side, but now he’s a changed man.”
Nephew Hector Medina said Fuster, a mechanic, was killed driving home from a pal’s auto body shop. “That’s our Paul Walker,” said Medina, referring to the actor killed in a California car wreck.
Three women inside the Dodge — the oldest 25, the youngest 20 — were taken to Montefiore Medical Center with minor injuries, officials said.
Investigators were trying to determine if Fuster blew a stoplight in his haste.
The Bronx wreck was the second horrific car crash in the city Saturday morning. In Brooklyn, three people were clinging to life after their sedan smashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, officials and witnesses said.
The sedan was zipping down Flatbush Ave. at about 100 mph when it slammed into the back of a Walgreens truck near Kings Highway in Flatlands about 4:35 a.m., officials said.
The force of the crash completely obliterated the car’s front end and sheared off the big rig’s rear wheels, stunned witnesses said. Firefighters had to cut two people out of the wreckage. A third passenger managed to get out on his own.
The three victims were taken to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition. A fourth person involved in the crash — believed to be the truck driver — suffered minor injuries, officials said.
No arrests have been made in either crash, police said.
