HAYFIELD, VA : Woman transported to hospital following afternoon crash on Tuesday, 13th March 2018
A 33-year-old woman from Green Springs, W.Va., was seriously injured Tuesday when she lost control of the sport utility vehicle she was driving and it flipped on its roof.
The incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Northwestern Pike (U.S. 50) in the eastbound lanes about a quarter mile before Hayfield Road.
The woman, who is eight months pregnant, was hospitalized at Winchester Medical Center, according to Lt. Warren Gosnell, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office traffic division commander. Gosnell, who didn’t identify the woman, said she was conscious and alert when placed in an ambulance at about 5:45 p.m.
Gosnell said the reason for the crash is under investigation.
The crash occurred on a curving stretch of the road, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph.
Traffic was at a standstill for about a quarter mile before the crash. It resumed flowing normally at 6:20 p.m.
No other vehicles were involved, and the woman was alone in the vehicle.
