Batavia man killed in Genesee County accident in Brandon Florida
A Batavia man was killed and his passenger injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Route 20 in Alexander, Genesee County sheriff's deputies said.Frank R. Demarco III, 48, of State Street, Batavia was driving his 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastbound on Route 20 at 1:34 p.m. when he lost control on the snow covered highway and crossed into the path of a 2010 Freightliner tractor-trailer, deputies said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Douglas McPherron, 54, of Clayton was transported by Alexander Volunteer Ambulance to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia for a medical evaluation.
The 1998 Ford Ranger came to rest just off the north shoulder of Route 20 into a ditch, deputies said. The tractor-trailer came to rest just off the north shoulder of the highway.
A passenger in the pickup truck, Brandon J. Eck, 32, of Graystone Lane, Rochester, was taken by Mercy EMS ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with a serious leg injury.
Demarco was pronounced dead at the scene by Genesee County Coroner Donald Coleman.Roads were snow covered and slippery at the time of the crash and deputies say improper speed may have been a factor.
Deputies said Demarco was not wearing a seatbelt.Assisting at the scene of the accident was the New York State Police, Mercy EMS Ambulance, Alexander Volunteer Fire Department, Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, Pavilion Volunteer Fire Department and the Genesee County Coroner's Office.
