Enid, OK : 23-year-old woman injured in crash at the intersection of 5th and Maine on Monday, May 11, 2015

A 23-year-old woman suffered a head injury Monday morning when the car she was a passenger in struck a curb to avoid a minivan.

Jaleta S. Copper was taken from the scene of the 10:48 a.m. crash at 5th and Maine by ambulance to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, according to an Enid Police Department report.

Cooper was a passenger in a 1998 Ford Mustang being driven by 23-year-old Jerred K. Cooper.

Jerred Cooper told police he was eastbound on Maine when he saw a minivan traveling south through the intersection at 5th, according to the report. He said to avoid a crash, he applied his brakes and turned to the right. He told police he hit the curb and drove into the grass before the vehicle stopped.

Etta M. Hopkins, 82, was southbound on 5th in a 2007 Chevy Uplander. She told police she looked both ways before crossing Maine and as she drove through the intersection she saw the Mustang, according to the report. Hopkins said she hit her brakes and turned to avoid a collision. Her vehicle did not receive any damage.

Jaleta Cooper told police she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash and when the vehicle hit the curb, she went forward and broke the windshield with her head.
