A 23-year-old man is in the hospital after an alcohol-related rollover crash in Erie County early Sunday morning.

Arthur T. Mead, of Vermilion, was driving a 2003 Ford pick-up truck eastbound on Mason Road, just east of Harrison, around 2:30 a.m.

Mead said he saw a deer standing near the right side of the road. He swerved off the left side of the roadway to avoid striking the deer.

The vehicle traveled off the road and overturned onto its roof.

Mead, who was wearing a seat belt, was able to free himself and get out of the damaged truck.

He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. After initial treatment at the hospital, he was transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash. Mead has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to control.
