A 23-year-old man was killed and his female passenger was seriously hurt early this morning in a fiery crash after their small SUV slammed into the center divider on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Lancaster, and they were both ejected onto the roadway, authorities said.
The crash took place about 12:15 a.m. on the southbound 14 Freeway at Avenue K, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The CHP accident report said the driver lost control of his SUV and hit the center divider. The collision set the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer on fire, which was doused Los Angeles County firefighters, the CHP said.
Firefighters also tried to revive the driver at the scene using CPR, but he died from his injuries, the CHP said. His name was withheld pending notification of kin.
The 29-year-old woman who was the passenger in the Blazer was treated at the scene and then hospitalized with major injuries.
