A 15-year-old girl lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday.

Anita Renee Jenkins was the passenger in a Chevrolet Impala during the crash on Alabama 269. The car left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then hit a tree along Highway 269 outside Jasper.

The 17-year-old driver was transported to Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper where she passed away.

Jenkins will be sorely missed, especially at Curry High School where she was a student, and much more.

After years of cheering at Curry High School, Jenkins was ready for a new challenge. She had just made the volleyball team. Many of her friends and teammates are just thankful for the time they had together.

“It’s weird just thinking about talking to her just a few days ago, not ever thinking something like this was going to happen,” said Desi Key, one of Jenkins’ best friends.

Classmates like Kayleigh Rice say the 15-year-old Jenkins had the entire world ahead of her. Instead, all of her potential was cut short after the car she was riding in crashed into a tree just a few days into summer break.

“She never ever failed to make me smile,” Rice said.
