Galax, VA : Two injured in crash on Tower Road on Sunday, 14th August, 2016
A Galax woman faces a charge as a result of an accident on Tower Road that sent her and her husband to the hospital with injuries.According to a report from Trooper R.D. Horton with the Virginia State Police, units were dispatched to an accident at 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 10 on Tower Road. The accident was in what’s known as Spivey’s Curve, near the private drive of Spivey Lane and about 500 yards past the Galax city limits into Carroll County.
The report stated that a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by Eva E. Joines, 80, of Pipers Gap Road, was traveling on Tower Road when she entered the curve and ran off the road on the righthand side. The vehicle went over an embankment, struck a tree, continued about 200 yards further, struck two additional trees and came to rest in the yard of a residence on Spivey Lane.
Joines’ husband, 83, was a passenger in the front of the vehicle, according to the report. Both occupants were transported to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Both Joines and her husband were wearing their seat belts and both side and front airbags deployed during the accident. Horton charged Joines with failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle. No drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the crash.
Horton estimated damages to Joines’ vehicle at $15,000 and property damage to the yard and the trees of the residence at around $1,000.
State Police Trooper J.A. Vaughan assisted Horton on the scene. Also responding to the accident were the Galax Police Department, the Galax Volunteer Fire Department and Piper’s Gap Rescue.
