NEW ROADS, LA : Passenger dies in crash after driver loses control and car flips Wednesday, 14th September 2016

A man died Wednesday night after the person driving the car he was riding in lost control and crashed, according to authorities.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Darrell Dillard, 47, of Morganza. Troopers said the driver of the car, Valerie Landry, 46, also of Morganza, suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said it happened on LA 10 west of LA 1 near New Roads around 10 p.m.

According to Lee, investigators determined Landry was driving east on LA 10 in a 2012 Chevrolet Impala when the car went off the road and she lost control. He added the car then hit a driveway and flipped.

Reports indicate Dillard was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigators reported Landry was properly buckled up, but they have not yet determined if impairment was a factor in the crash.

A sample of her blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
