QUEENS, NY : 1 dead in accident on Long Island Expressway in Queens in the eastbound lanes near Exit 17 on Thursday, 27th June 2019

Authorities are investigating what led to a deadly multi-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway in Queens on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened at 1:25 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Exit 17.

One of the vehicles flipped over the center divider. It landed in the westbound lanes where it was struck by four other vehicles.

Officials said the driver of that vehicle, a 67-year-old man, died in the crash. He may have had a medical episode, investigators said.
