Estes Park, CO : A 64-year-old Severance man was killed in a rafting accident on Tuesday, June 27, 2017
A 64-year-old Severance man was killed in a rafting accident Tuesday on the Poudre River west of Fort Collins.
A commercial raft reportedly carrying a total of seven people flipped over on the river about 11 miles west of U.S. Highway 287 around 10:25 a.m., a press release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said.
The other six people made it to shore safely, and only the Severance man died. All of the raft's occupants were wearing helmets and personal flotation devices, the release said.
The Severance resident was pulled form the river unresponsive, and emergency crews performed CPR on him before he was transported to a hospital via helicopter, but he could not be revived.
The victim's identity, and cause and manner of death will be released by the Larimer County Coroner's Office.
The death is the second to occur on the Poudre River this month after an 18-year-old was reportedly killed in a tubing accident involving a low-head dam.
Personnel with LCSO, Larimer County Emergency Services, Larimer County Dive Rescue Team, Poudre Fire Authority, Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District and Northern Colorado Med Evac responded to Tuesday's incident.
