Anchorage, AK : Parks Highway closed by injury crash south of Big Lake on Tuesday afternoon, December 2, 2014
Alaska State Troopers say the Parks Highway has reopened south of Big Lake, after a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon which injured both drivers and left one person entrapped in one of the vehicles involved.
AST spokeswoman Megan Peters said in emails to Channel 2 that troopers responded to the crash, which closed the highway at about Mile 50, just before 12:45 p.m. It’s not clear whether the two vehicles collided head-on.
"The vehicles were a Land Rover and a Jeep," Peters wrote. "Both drivers were transported from the scene."
Peters said the entrapped person was extricated, with both drivers sent to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries and the highway reopened as of about 2:15 p.m.
“It’s wintertime,” Peters wrote. “Roads (are) slick and drivers should drive for the conditions, which includes driving at reduced speeds.”
