Hobe Sound, FL : 83-year-old Stuart woman struck and killed by car in Martin County on Thursday morning, March 30, 2017

An 83-year-old Stuart woman died Thursday morning when she was struck by a car as she tried to walk across Cove Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Celia Kisiel was crossing Cove Road at Riverboat Drive at about 6:40 a.m. when she was struck by a westbound 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Glenn Avery Gallucci, 67, of Stuart.

Gallucci failed to see Kisiel crossing the street, FHP said in its report.

Kisiel was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, where she was pronounced dead, FHP said.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation,. Gallucci was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not under the influence of alcohol.
