CLAY COUNTY, IN : One injured after fiery Interstate 70 crash on Saturday, 22nd October 2016

Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 70.

A large fire happened after the crash in the westbound lanes at the 19 mile maker in Clay County. That’s west of the Brazil exit, and near the Clay/Vigo County line.

Indiana State Police say three semi trucks were involved. Two caught fire.

Police believe one semi driven, by 48-year-old Abid Sibalo of St. Louis, MO, failed to stop for traffic congestion caused by construction, and jack-knifed. He was driving for LTL Systems Inc. of Bridgeton, Missouri and hauling dry goods.

Sibalo’s semi then hit a semi driven by 32-year-old Deepak Aery of Ontario, Canada.

Aery’s semi then hit the back of a third semi drive by 65-year-old Jerry Johnson of Milan, IN.

After the initial collisions, Sibalo and Aery’s tractor-trailers erupted in fire and destroy both units.

The smoke from the crash could be seen from downtown Terre Haute.

Sibalo was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

Police tell News 10 Sibalo was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The other drivers did not report injuries.

The westbound passing lane opened at 5:35p.m. Driving lane cleanup took several hours.
