Phoenix, AZ : At least 1 dead after fiery wrong-way crash on Loop 202 in south Phoenix on Monday, 26th February 2024

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — The eastbound lanes of Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in south Phoenix were closed for several hours on Monday after a deadly wrong-way crash involving four vehicles, including a semi-truck.According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, an SUV driving west in the eastbound lanes of the 202 first side-swiped the passenger side of a minivan before colliding with a semi-truck. The truck and trailer caught fire, and both were destroyed.

The driver of the SUV, since identified as 61-year-old Gary Burnside of Phoenix, died at the scene. The drivers of the minivan and semi-truck were not hurt.
