One person has died, and four others were taken to the hospital, following a crashing involving a rollback wrecker and GNC service truck on Thursday, December 1.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers (SCHP), it happened around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the intersection of Old State Road (Highway 176) and Mudville Road. According to troopers, a GNC service truck was traveling south on Mudville Road, when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. That’s when the rollback wrecker was traveling east on Highway 176 struck the service truck, killing one of the passengers in the service truck.
On Friday, the Berkeley County Coroner identified the person who died as Michael Brandon Perry II, 22. He was entrapped under the truck, and was extricated by the local fire department. Perry was pronounced dead on the scene. Perry was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the coroner, and his death was ruled accidental.
Two other passengers in the service truck were taken to a local hospital. Two passengers in the rollback wrecker were also transported.
The crash was investigated by SCHP and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.
This incident was the 39th traffic fatality in Berkeley County this year.
