Pender County, NC : One man arrested in hit-and-run appears in Pender County on Monday May 30, 2016.


A Pender County man who was arrested on Sunday in connection to the hit-and-run death of a Topsail High School student appeared in court on Tuesday.
James Williams, 30, of Holly Ridge, will be given a court-appointed attorney. Williams' next court appearance is scheduled for June 15 in Pender County. His bond was set at $50,000 when he was booked Sunday.
Williams is accused of killing 17-year-old Tomas Green in a hit-and-run incident May 25 on US 17 near Hampstead. Green was riding a Razor scooter in the northbound lane when he was hit. He was found in the median after the collision.
A State Highway Patrol investigation led to a 2002 Chevrolet vehicle owned by Williams. After interviewing Williams and consulting with the District Attorney's Office, Williams was arrested on May 29.
Williams was charged with felony hit-and-run death and driving with a revoked license.
The case remains under investigation.
According to online records for the Department of Public Safety, Williams Jr. was arrested in 2015 on an unrelated DWI charge and in February he received a suspended sentence as well as 18 months probation.
According to court records, Williams faces possession with the intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule I controlled substance, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia charges in New Hanover County.
