DOERUN, GA : 3 hurt in Doerun accident on Thursday, 6th October 2016
A truck that overturned burst into flames Thursday afternoon in Doerun sent a teen-ager to an Augusta hospital with reported severe burns.
The Georgia State Patrol said that Jalen Rutledge, 21, of Warner Robins drove off Highway 133 while negotiating a curve to the left. The 1995 Ford truck left the roadway and went onto the shoulder of the and crossed over both lanes of the highway.
Rutledge was driving south at about 4:50 p.m. near Doerun Gin Co. when the single-vehicle accident occurred.
The truck started to rotate counterclockwise, the GSP said, and went off the roadway on the east shoulder. After the passenger side struck the ditch the truck overturned, settled on the passenger side and burst into flames.
Rutledge told police that as he was taking the curve the truck started to bounce, causing him to leave the roadway. He then hit the brakes and lost control.
He was cited for failure to maintain lane.
Rutledge and Tyvon Hicks, also 21, of Centerville were transported to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, the GSP said. A hospital spokeswoman said they were treated and released.
Paul Turner, 17, of Fort Valley was airlifted to Macon and from there to Augusta.
On Friday evening he was listed in serious condition at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, a hospital spokesman said.
