VANCOUVER, WA : A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Tuesday, July 25, 2017
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving multiple vehicles on northbound Interstate 205 in Vancouver on Tuesday.
The crash occurred just south of SR-500 at 3:17 p.m.
Washington State Patrol reports 60-year-old Michael D. Shields of Salem was driving a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on the highway when he hit the passenger side of a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup and then the back of a Jeep Liberty.
The truck and Jeep were stopped for traffic, according to police.
After the initial collision, the Dodge Ram hit the Jeep, which was pushed into the back of a 2007 Lincoln Town Car.
Troopers said the cause of the crash was speeding and an unsafe lane change.
Shields was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, according to police.
There were no other injuries.
Police said they received reports of low-speed collisions in the backed-up traffic following the crash, as well as a road rage incident involving a driver who exited a car and began hitting other vehicles.
Two northbound lanes of I-205 were blocked for hours after the crash. Troopers advised drivers to avoid the area if possible or expect major delays.
