Topeka, KS : One person was killed and another seriously injured in a one-vehicle highway crash on Friday, 6th April 2018

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a one-vehicle highway crash late Friday in west Topeka, authorities said.

The names, genders and ages of those involved weren’t immediately available.

A Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center dispatcher said law enforcement officers and rescue workers were called at 9:39 p.m. to the scene.

A Topeka police officer at the scene said the crash occurred as the driver of a pickup truck was taking the exit ramp from northbound Interstate 470 to eastbound Interstate 70.

The truck slid on the precipitation-slickened roadway, left the ramp on its north side and rolled, the officer said.

He said the truck’s surviving occupant was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to a Topeka hospital.

The exit ramp where the crash occurred remained blocked off late Friday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol was investigating.
