Cocoa, FL : Man lying in road fatally struck by a car on June 13th 2014

A man is dead after he was hit by a car Friday morning in Brevard County.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Blake Avenue and Peachtree Street.

Police said he was alert and responsive while being airlifted from the scene. He succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Thinking she may have hit someone, police said the driver pulled over while a passenger called 911.

Police said the man was lying in the road prior to the accident and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The man's name has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.

The death remains under investigation.
