Watson ,LA : Woman charged, motorcyclist dead after crash on Cane Market Road Wednesday afternoon ,July 1st 2015

A woman has been charged in connection with a two-vehicle crash in Watson that killed a motorcyclist Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. in front of Walmart at the intersection of Hwy. 16 and Cane Market Road.

Officials say 68-year-old motorcyclist Charles Sons Jr, of Denham Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene.

46-year-old Lisa Meek, of Denham Springs, has been arrested and charged with negligent homicide and careless operation. She was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Officials say that as Sons passed through the intersection, Meek, driving a Chevy Malibu, attempted to turn and crashed into him.

"Both vehicles had a green light. The driver making the left turn failed to yield for the oncoming traffic," said TFC. Bryan Lee of the Louisiana State Police.

Sons was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

This is not the first time this intersection has been the scene of a crash. The intersection was expanded about two years ago when Walmart moved in, increasing the number of lanes from four to eight.

Alicia Bonaventure, who works at a nearby gas station, says all the traffic and wider road makes things more confusing.

"When you're stopped at the light over there, they're jetted slightly to the side, so it's really hard to tell which one you're supposed to be looking at," Bonaventure said.

Still others said that the recent changes are not problematic.

"I think it's designed properly to accommodate business around here," said Brandon Mihlfread, who lives near the crash site.

Troopers with the Louisiana State Police are investigating.
