LINDEN, PA : Lock Haven man killed in crash on Route 220 on Wednesday, October, 25th 2017
State police confirmed that Robert L. Brunner, 50, of Lock Haven, was killed when he was hit by two vehicles along Route 220 in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, in the morning darkness about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigator Ernest Capobianco said Brunner was hit by one vehicle, then another while he was either walking or standing along the southbound lanes of the highway, some 70 feet east of the West Fourth Street on-ramp and near the Woodward Township Volunteer Fire Co. station.
Police said a 2006-model Subaru driven by Janice L. Mitcheltree, 77, of Trout Run, was southbound when it hit Brunner. He was then hit by a southbound 1996-model Chrysler Town and Country driven by Stacia Stutzman, 47, of Ralston, police report.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. and Chief Deputy Coroner Jerold Ross were both at the scene.
Route 220 southbound was closed from Reach Road and all traffic was detoured to Route 654.
Fire officials said it was the fourth pedestrian fatality on that stretch of Route 220 in the township since mid September of last year.
Brunner had been a patient in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, left and apparently was walking home to Lock Haven when struck, Kiessling said.
Police are seeking any witnesses to the accident and ask that they call Troop F at 570-368-5700.
