Las Vegas, NV : North Las Vegas Police detective critically injured in crash on Friday afternoon, January 6, 2017
A woman driving in the wrong direction on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Carey Avenue caused a crash that critically injured an on-duty North Las Vegas Police detective Friday afternoon, according the department spokesperson Aaron Patty.
Speaking from the scene in a briefing broadcast online, Patty said the detective was fighting for his life at University Medical Center.
The detective was traveling north when the woman’s car, which was heading the wrong way, smashed into his car, Patty said. A separate vehicle was also struck.
The detective was taken to UMC in critical condition. The woman is also at UMC and listed in stable condition, Patty said about 5 p.m.
A person in the third vehicle suffered minor injuries, Patty said.
The intersection was shut down for several hours, Patty said.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the woman to drive in the wrong direction or exactly when she entered the northbound lanes, Patty said.
“We are still asking for the prayers across the valley from people for his condition to improve,” Patty said. “As a department (and) as a whole, this is near and dear to all of us...”.
