Omaha, NE : 2 motorists seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash at South 84th and L Streets on Thursday, October 13, 2016
Two motorists were seriously injured late Thursday in a four-vehicle crash at South 84th and L Streets in Omaha.
Police said around 11:35 p.m. officers were dispatched to the crash that sent two drivers to the Nebraska Medical Center.
A 2002 Acura SUV was eastbound on L Street, approaching the 84th Street intersection, when it entered the turn lanes for northbound 84th Street, striking a 1999 Lincoln Town Car and a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, police said.
The Acura continued east and struck a westbound 2002 Ford Explorer nearly head-on, with the Acura eventually stopping at the southeast corner of the 84th and L intersection, police said.
The driver of the Acura, Hunter Owensby, 27, of Davenport, Iowa, was treated for chest injuries, which were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The Explorer’s driver, Khoa Nguyen, 43, of Omaha, was treated for chest injuries and a knee laceration. His injuries also were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police said that prior to the 84th and L Streets crash the Acura was involved in a hit-and-run accident at 168th and Pacific Streets, where it struck a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and fled from the scene.
The Jeep pursued the Acura before the Grand Cherokee driver lost sight of the Acura at 108th and L Streets, police said.
Later, the Jeep arrived at the 84th and L Streets crash. The Omaha motorist was ticketed for reckless driving after telling officers that he pursued the Acura at high speed, police said.
Police also said that the crash remained under investigation and that additional charges may be filed later.
The drivers of the Lincoln, Chevrolet and Jeep were not injured.
