SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA : CHP seeking witnesses to fatal 605 Freeway crash on Monday, 24th October 2016
Santa Fe Springs, California
The California Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses to a fiery hit-and-run collision on the northbound 605 Freeway earlier this week that left one man dead and three people injured.
One driver ran after the crash.
The coroner’s office has not released the name of the man who was killed but the CHP described him as a 30-year-old El Monte resident. Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said they plan to use dental records to identify the man.
Sgt. Armando Perdomo of the Santa Fe Springs CHP Office said there is a person of interest in the case but no one has been arrested. He didn’t know the current condition of three who were injured in the crash.
A Toyota Prius and a Chevrolet Camaro collided on the northbound 605 Freeway, south of Slauson Avenue around 1:50 a.m. Monday.
The CHP didn’t have details yet on what caused the crash.
Perdomo said the two cars came to rest on the carpool lane and the adjacent lane then became engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Camaro got out of the car and left.
A man sitting in the back of the Prius got trapped and died at the scene, Perdomo said.
He said a 62-year-old El Monte man driving the Prius suffered internal injuries as well as burns to his face and hands.
The Prius’ two other passengers were also injured. A 63-year-old El Monte woman suffered burns to her hands and face while a 31-year-old El Monte woman suffered burns to her torso, face and hands. Paramedics took the three to UC Irvine Medical Center.
