Sarasota, FL : 32-year-old man is facing a variety of charges for his role in a serious crash that injured a scooter rider on early Friday morning September 19th 2014
A 32-year-old Sarasota man is facing a variety of charges for his role in a serious crash that injured a scooter rider early Friday morning.
David Robert Fishburn was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and released after posting a bond of $25,000.
Jacobie Lee Harrell was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton just after 2 am where he is listed in critical condition. The incident occurred near the intersection of Higel Ave. and Cedar Park Circle.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Fishburn was traveling north on Higel in his 2014 Acura MDX when he attempted to pass Harrell's 2011 TAO Scooter. Fishburn's vehicle sideswiped the scooter and the 26-year-old Harrell was ejected onto the roadway.
Due to the size of the scooter Fishburn was unaware he had hit it. Harrell, who was not wearing a helmet, fell underneath the right rear tire of the Acura.
Fishburn was not injured. He is facing one count of DUI with bodily injury and one count of DUI with property damage. He was also issued a citation for improper lane change.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
