West Warwick, R.I : Two people injured after car crashes into convenience store on Thursday, June 25, 2015

Several people have been sent to the hospital as a result of a multi-car crash, with one smashing into a convenience store.

The scene unfolded around 1 a.m. Thursday, on the corner of Main and Remington Streets.

Crews arrived to the scene where two cars were badly damaged. Police said four people were transported to the hospital for treatment. As of Thursday afternoon, only one person remained hospitalized.

A witness to the crash described that he believed the cars to be street racing before coming to an abrupt end in front of Breads and Stuff.

“The car was going way too fast and couldn’t stop,” said the man. “This vehicle here collided with this one coming out of the intersection. I heard it, I looked up and I saw someone getting out of this vehicle.. actually running [away].”

We also spoke with a woman who said her sister, Katherine Palmer, was driving with her boyfriend and his cousin when the other vehicle slammed into the driver’s side door. According to her, the cars involved were not racing.

The woman said her sister was sent to the hospital and is not doing well.

Police say the accident is still under investigation.
