Ottawa County , OH :59- years old David L. Weyer killed after oncoming vehicle went left of center and striking his motorcycle on Sunday ,April 12th 2015

A Toledo motorcyclist died in Ottawa County on Sunday when an oncoming vehicle went left of center, striking his motorcycle.

David L. Weyer, 59, of Toledo, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Sandusky post of Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at Ohio 2 and Carroll-Erie Road at about 12:30 p.m., forcing law enforcement to temporarily close the highway.

Weyer was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Ohio 2.

Floyd M. Jeremay Jr., 74, of Northwood, the oncoming driver, was heading westbound on Ohio 2 in a 2013 Buick Lacrosse.

He apparently swerved left of center into oncoming traffic to avoid a rear-end collision. A westbound car was stopped in front of him on Ohio 2, waiting to turn left onto Carroll-Erie Road, according to the patrol's news release.

Jeremay struck Weyer's motorcycle head-on and both vehicles veered south off Ohio 2.

Weyer was ejected from his motorcycle, which caught fire during the incident.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the news release.

Jeremay suffered non-life threatening injuries and received treatment at Mercy St. Charles Hospital, near Toledo. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation, and criminal charges are likely pending for Jeremay.
