Newark , NJ : Eight injured after drunk driver crashes into New Jersey Transit bus on Friday morning, May 1st 2015

At least eight people were injured in Newark early Friday when an allegedly drunk driver slammed into a New Jersey Transit bus, officials said.

The 2 a.m. crash injured six people on the bus, two critically, police sources told NBC New York. Two people inside the car — the drunken driver and his passenger — were also hurt.

The unidentified driver had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit to drive, sources told the TV station.

The car hit the bus at the intersection of Central Avenue and 8th Street, officials said.

The injured and bleeding driver of the car tried to flee the scene, but police caught up with him at a nearby gas station. His passenger was critically injured, police said.
