According to officials, the crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on US 701 near Sweet Home Church Road outside of Elizabethtown.

Kenneth Gary Haselden, 64, of Huger, SC, was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck southbound on US 701 when he crashed into the back of a 2006 Chevy SUV driven by Melissa Coffin Melvin, 50, of Elizabethtown, who was slowing for traffic.

Jinely, 11, was not properly restrained either but was not ejected from the vehicle. She was eventually airlifted to Duke hospital. Josue, 1, was in a car seat and not seriously injured.
