Pocatello, ID : Five hurt in one wreck, 1 person dead in separate crash on Sunday, 21st August, 2016
Idaho State police responded to a fatal crash on Monday morning, and another that left five injured on Sunday afternoon.
The fatal crash Monday occurred on U.S. Highway 91 near Bowman Road close to Downey.
Police say Shelley resident Jason McKinney, 42, was heading north in a Volkswagen passenger car when he drove over the fog line on the right shoulder of the road and then overcorrected. His vehicle came back onto the roadway, crossed the lanes, then went off the left side and overturned.
McKinney was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected, police said. He died at the scene of the accident.
Sunday’s injury crash took place on Interstate 84 near Burley.
Police say Johnny Sherwood, 62, of Bloomfield, N.M., was driving east in a 2005 Peterbilt that was hauling seven passenger cars when the semi went off the right shoulder of the road and into the barrow pit. The vehicle then came back onto the roadway, crossed the eastbound lanes and overturned. Three of the passenger cars were dislodged in the process, police said.
Homedale resident Christian O’Dell, 39, who was also driving east in a 1999 Plymouth Breeze tried to slow down, but still collided with the semi, police said.
O’Dell’s passengers, Amy O’Dell, 38, of Homedale, and two juveniles were all transported by ground ambulance to Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert. Sherwood was transported as well.
Police confirmed that a fifth person was also transported following the crash, but no additional details were available.
Efforts to obtain the conditions of those transported failed on Monday.
Police said all of the occupants were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred.
