Canton. NY : Pedestrian hit and killed while walking on Canton road on Saturday, January 3, 2015

State police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car while walking along a northern New York road.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Saturday on state Route 11 in Canton in St. Lawrence County.

Police say 56-year-old Richard Mackin of Canton was walking on the road's shoulder when he was hit from behind by a car driven by a 25-year-old man from Potsdam.

Mackin was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled accidental by the county coroner.

Troopers say their investigation is continuing.
