Baton Rouge,LA : Multiple injured in major I-10 crash involving two 18-wheelers on September, Tuesday 26th 2017

Eight people, including a child, were involved in a five-vehicle crash Tuesday about 4 p.m. on Interstate 10 East at the foot of the Mississippi River bridge, said Lt. Ken Albarez of the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office traffic division.

Six of those people were rushed to area hospitals, with injuries ranging from severe to moderate, Albarez said. The crash resulted in traffic backups of some three miles both east and west for about two hours.

The crash was caused by an 18-wheeler that was unable to stop in time at a traffic backup and plowed into three vehicles, one of which was pushed under another 18-wheeler, Albarez said.

The driver of the first 18-wheeler, Yasin Ibrahim, 43, of Burnsville, Minnesota, was cited on five counts of negligent injury and one count of careless operation of a motor vehicle, Albarez said.

Members of the Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, Acadian Ambulance and a number of fire districts were called to the scene, where some of the victims had been trapped in their vehicles.
